Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar has said that around 90% of the Karimnagar–Warangal National Highway (NH-563) expansion works have been completed and the road is expected to be opened for public use by the Dasara festival period.

Highway project details

  1. The project involves upgrading the Karimnagar–Warangal stretch of NH-563 into a wider four-lane highway.
  2. The total project cost is around ₹2,147 crore.
  3. The road stretch is approximately 68 km long.
  4. The expansion is aimed at improving connectivity between two major Telangana cities — Karimnagar and Warangal.

Bandi Sanjay’s inspection

Bandi Sanjay inspected the ongoing highway works near Kandugula while returning from Jammikunta. During the visit, officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) briefed him about the progress.

He said that most major works have been completed, while some remaining works include:

  1. Culverts
  2. U-turns
  3. Bypass roads at selected locations
  4. Pending works in some areas including Kothagattu, Bommakal and Gattududdenapalli
  5. Benefits expected after completion

The completed highway is expected to:

  1. Reduce travel time between Karimnagar and Warangal
  2. Improve road safety and reduce accidents
  3. Provide smoother movement for commercial vehicles
  4. Support industrial and economic growth in the region
  5. Improve connectivity for nearby towns and villages

Background of the project

The Karimnagar–Warangal highway development has been part of the Centre’s highway expansion plans under the Bharatmala programme. Earlier, funds of about ₹2,146 crore were sanctioned for converting the existing road into a four-lane highway.

Future plans

Bandi Sanjay also highlighted the need to speed up the Karimnagar–Jagtial highway expansion project after completing the Karimnagar–Warangal road works
