Bengaluru: A disturbing road-rage incident on the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway has raised serious concerns about highway safety after a group of men allegedly attacked a Bengaluru resident and his family. The victim said his wife pleaded with the attackers and even offered them her gold jewellery in exchange for allowing the family to leave, but the assault reportedly continued.
The incident occurred at around 10:30 pm on Sunday near Maddur in Karnataka’s Mandya district. Police said the confrontation allegedly began after the victim’s car came into contact with another vehicle during heavy traffic on the expressway. What started as an argument reportedly escalated into a violent attack.
Family Allegedly Attacked on Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway
The victim, identified as Sagar Kumar, said that nearly nine people surrounded his vehicle and assaulted him and members of his family. His wife and their 10-month-old baby were travelling with him at the time of the incident.
According to Sagar, his wife folded her hands and repeatedly requested the attackers to spare the family because they were travelling with an infant. She reportedly offered her gold and other valuables in an attempt to stop the violence, but her pleas failed to calm the group.
The victim said the incident had left his wife deeply traumatised, while he continued to recover from the injuries suffered during the assault.
Dashcam Video Captures the Incident
The alleged attack was recorded by the dashcam of another vehicle travelling behind the family. The footage reportedly shows several men stopping the car on the highway, surrounding it and pulling Sagar out before assaulting him on the road.
His wife can reportedly be seen leaving the vehicle and attempting to protect him. Another motorist also tried to intervene and calm the situation, but the confrontation continued.
The video later gained widespread attention and became important evidence in the police investigation.
Three Accused Arrested
Following a complaint filed by Sagar on Monday, police launched an investigation and arrested three men in connection with the alleged assault. Authorities are continuing efforts to determine the involvement of other individuals seen in the video.
Police are also examining the available footage and other evidence to establish the complete sequence of events. Further legal action is expected based on the findings of the investigation.
Victim Calls for Better Highway Surveillance
Following the incident, Sagar raised concerns about the lack of adequate surveillance on several stretches of national highways. He said that incidents occurring in areas without CCTV cameras may go unrecorded, making it difficult for victims to identify attackers or provide evidence.
He called for stronger monitoring systems, additional CCTV cameras and quicker emergency-response measures on major highways. The victim said improved surveillance could help prevent violent incidents and assist authorities in identifying offenders.
Road-Rage Incident Raises Safety Concerns
The attack has renewed discussions about road rage and passenger safety on the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway. The incident also highlights how minor traffic disputes can quickly turn violent when disagreements are not handled calmly.
Authorities generally advise motorists to avoid engaging in aggressive confrontations, remain inside their vehicles when they feel threatened and immediately contact emergency services or nearby police.
The case remains under investigation, and additional details may be released as police identify other people allegedly involved. The arrests and availability of dashcam footage are expected to play an important role in the ongoing legal proceedings
