A 56-year-old man was arrested by the Uppal Special Operations Team (SOT) for allegedly selling banned oxytocin injections that were being used illegally to increase milk production in dairy animals. The arrest took place after police received a tip-off and conducted a raid in Maktha village, under the jurisdiction of the Pocharam IT Corridor Police Station in Hyderabad.
What happened?
According to police, the accused, identified as M. Rangaiah Yadav (56), was allegedly involved in the illegal sale of oxytocin injections. During the raid, officers recovered five vials of banned oxytocin injections from his possession. Authorities stated that the accused operates a water plant business and is suspected of supplying the prohibited drug for use in dairy animals.
Why is oxytocin banned for dairy use?
Oxytocin is a hormone used in human medicine for specific medical purposes. However, its unauthorized use in dairy animals to force milk let-down or artificially increase milk production is prohibited. Veterinary experts warn that repeated misuse can:
Harm the reproductive health of cattle.
Cause uterine stress, mastitis, and reduced fertility.
Lead to long-term dependence on the injections for milk release.
Potentially pose health risks to consumers if residues remain in milk.
Police action
After the seizure, the recovered injections were handed over to the Pocharam IT Corridor Police, who have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the source of the banned injections and whether others are involved in the illegal supply chain.
Background
This is not the first crackdown on illegal oxytocin sales in the Hyderabad region. Earlier this year, Hyderabad police arrested another individual and seized 173 bottles of restricted oxytocin injections, indicating that authorities are continuing efforts to dismantle illegal networks supplying the drug to dairy farmers.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to identify additional people who may be connected to the illegal distribution of banned oxytocin injections in and around Hyderabad.
