Hyderabad: A woman was robbed of a gold chain weighing approximately three tolas at Kompally in Hyderabad after a man allegedly attacked her and fled with the jewellery.
The incident took place on Monday evening when the accused, identified as Malladi Narsimha, 23, allegedly visited a store in the Kompally area. According to the report, Narsimha, who was originally from East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh and was staying at a boys’ hostel in Ameerpet, attacked the woman, identified as Bijjam Malleshwari, before taking her gold chain.
The stolen chain was reported to weigh around three tolas. After committing the robbery, the accused attempted to escape from the location.
However, people in the surrounding area noticed what had happened and chased the suspect. The locals managed to catch him and handed him over to the Petbasheerabad police after reportedly assaulting him.
Police subsequently took Narsimha into custody and registered a case in connection with the incident. He was later remanded, according to the report.
The incident highlights the continuing concern over gold-chain snatching and robbery incidents in Hyderabad, particularly in areas where criminals can quickly escape after targeting pedestrians or shopkeepers. Police investigations in such cases generally rely on witness accounts and CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events and identify suspects.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain cautious when wearing valuable jewellery in public places and to immediately report suspicious activity to the police.
