TMC–BJP supporters clashed at Kolkata Airport on Friday evening (June 19, 2026) ahead of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee’s arrival from Delhi. Banerjee was returning after meeting Om Birla, according to reports.
What happened
A group of BJP supporters gathered at the airport, reportedly near the arrival area, ahead of Banerjee’s return. Reports said some BJP workers were allegedly carrying eggs.A large number of TMC supporters also reached the airport, leading to a confrontation near the arrival gates. The situation reportedly turned into pushing, scuffling and clashes between the two groups.
Police personnel were deployed to control the situation and prevent escalation.
Political reactions
The incident has intensified the ongoing political rivalry between the two parties in West Bengal.
TMC leaders accused BJP supporters of creating a threatening situation around Banerjee’s arrival, with some party leaders alleging a possible attack attempt.
BJP and TMC have frequently traded accusations over political violence and law-and-order issues in the state.
At this stage, reports indicate the clash was mainly between supporters of both parties at the airport, while authorities were working to assess the incident and maintain security.
