Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao has written an open letter seeking a meeting with Rahul Gandhi, asking him to respond to allegations that the Congress government in Telangana has failed to fulfil election promises.

What triggered the controversy?

The BJP’s demand came amid a political exchange between the BJP and the Congress government in Telangana. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had earlier raised issues related to pending approvals for Hyderabad Metro Phase-II and sought support from Union ministers. The BJP responded by targeting the Congress over promises made during the Assembly elections.

BJP’s allegations

Ramchander Rao and other BJP leaders accused the Congress government of failing to deliver on its “Six Guarantees” and other election commitments. The BJP has claimed that several promises related to farmers, youth, women, welfare schemes and financial assistance remain incomplete.

Some of the issues raised by BJP include:

Jobs and unemployment: BJP alleges the promised job calendar and employment-related assurances have not been fully implemented.
Farmers’ issues: The party has criticised the government over farmer support schemes, loan waiver and agricultural commitments.
Women welfare schemes: BJP leaders have questioned the status of promised financial assistance schemes for women.
Social welfare promises: BJP has alleged that commitments made to Dalits, backward classes and other groups are pending.

What does BJP want from Rahul Gandhi?

Ramchander Rao’s letter reportedly seeks a direct discussion with Rahul Gandhi, arguing that since Rahul Gandhi was a key face of the Congress campaign in Telangana, he should explain the status of the promises made to voters.

Congress side

Congress leaders have rejected BJP’s criticism and say the government is working on implementing its guarantees. The Congress has also accused BJP of avoiding discussions on issues such as central support and development projects for Telangana.

Political background

The issue has become part of a larger BJP–Congress battle in Telangana ahead of future elections. BJP is trying to position itself as the opposition voice by highlighting alleged governance failures, while Congress is defending its record and pointing to development and welfare initiatives.
