A 45-year-old priest, Chamarthi Rama Latcha Rao, also known as Rama Sarma, was apprehended at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) after returning from the United States in connection with an alleged ₹20 lakh cheating case. He was detained by immigration authorities based on a Look Out Circular (LOC) issued by the Bachupally police.

Who is the accused?

According to police, Rama Sarma worked as a priest and had developed a close relationship with the complainant by regularly performing religious ceremonies at his residence. Investigators said he also presented himself as a businessman and claimed to be:

A partner in Trivedi Chemical Solutions LLP.

Associated with several other companies.
Running a charitable trust.
He allegedly introduced his wife, Chamarthi Prameela Rani, and an associate, Manchikanti Venkata Raghavendra Vara Prasad, as directors of different firms.
How did the alleged fraud happen?

The complaint was filed in April 2025 by software professional Mandanapu Naveen Kumar Chowdary.

Police said that:

During 2023 and 2024, the priest allegedly sought financial help, claiming he needed money to expand his business.
He reportedly assured the complainant that the amount would be repaid within three months.
Believing the promises, the complainant transferred money to accounts linked to the accused and his associates.
While part of the money was allegedly repaid, about ₹20 lakh remained unpaid despite repeated requests.
