The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which manages the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, has officially confirmed that it has received the resignations of its General Secretary Champat Rai and Trustee Anil Mishra amid the ongoing controversy over alleged irregularities in temple donations. The Trust said it is committed to a fair investigation and assured devotees that such an incident will not be allowed to happen again.
Why Did the Officials Resign?
According to the Trust, Champat Rai and Anil Mishra voluntarily submitted their resignation letters following the controversy surrounding the alleged theft of donations collected at the Ram Mandir.
The Trust stated that the resignations would be considered during its next official meeting and emphasized that the move was intended to ensure a transparent and impartial investigation.
Background of the Donation Controversy
The resignations come after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) began probing allegations of theft and misappropriation of donations received through the temple’s donation boxes.
According to investigators:
Eight people have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft.
Police reportedly seized around ₹80 lakh during the investigation.
CCTV footage allegedly played a key role in identifying those accused.
The SIT has been examining whether the theft was limited to a few individuals or part of a larger conspiracy.
Trust Assures Devotees Donations Are Safe
In an official statement, the Trust sought to reassure devotees that offerings made directly to Lord Ram—including silver bricks, ornaments, jewellery, and other valuables—remain safe and have been properly recorded.
The Trust also clarified that legal proceedings regarding the alleged donation theft are already underway based on the interim report submitted by the SIT.
“Won’t Let Such Incidents Happen Again”
The Trust said it was “shocked, hurt and deeply saddened” by the allegations and promised to strengthen internal systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.
