The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for India’s upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, with experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja making his return and Saransh Jain receiving his maiden Test call-up. The series, part of the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, will begin on August 15 in Galle, followed by the second Test in Colombo from August 23 to 27.
Jadeja Returns After Injury
Ravindra Jadeja is back in India’s Test squad after recovering from a tennis elbow injury, which kept him out of the one-off Test against Afghanistan. His return strengthens India’s spin department and adds valuable experience to the middle order.
Jadeja’s all-round abilities with both bat and ball are expected to play a crucial role on Sri Lanka’s spin-friendly pitches.
Saransh Jain Receives First Test Call-Up
The biggest talking point in the squad is the inclusion of 33-year-old off-spin all-rounder Saransh Jain, who has earned his first-ever call-up to the Indian Test team after years of consistent domestic performances.
Jain represents Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket and has impressed selectors with his performances in the Ranji Trophy as well as for India A. He has been selected after Washington Sundar was ruled out of the opening Test due to a hamstring injury.
Reward for Consistent Domestic Performances
Saransh Jain has spent more than a decade performing consistently in domestic cricket. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball made him a strong contender for a place in the national squad.
His recent performances for India A against Sri Lanka A further strengthened his case, where he contributed valuable runs and wickets in challenging conditions.
Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan Await Fitness Clearance
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and batter Sai Sudharsan have been included in the squad, but both will be available only after receiving fitness clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.
The selectors have taken a cautious approach to ensure both players are fully fit before the series begins.
