Continuous rainfall for the second day in a row caused severe traffic congestion across Hyderabad, significantly disrupting daily life. Office-goers, students, and commuters faced long delays as waterlogged roads, ongoing infrastructure projects, and heavy vehicle movement slowed traffic across several major routes.
The worst-affected areas included HITEC City, Gachibowli, Madhapur, Financial District, IKEA Junction, Kondapur, Kothaguda Junction, Hafeezpet, Miyapur, Begumpet, and Khajaguda. During peak hours, commuters reported travel delays ranging from two to three hours, with many vehicles moving only a few kilometres over extended periods. Public transport services, including buses, also experienced delays due to slow-moving traffic.
One of the main reasons behind the congestion was the combination of persistent rainfall and ongoing road infrastructure works. Construction of flyovers, underpasses, and elevated corridors reduced road space in several parts of the city. Rainwater accumulated near construction zones, making it difficult for vehicles to move smoothly and creating bottlenecks at key junctions.
Traffic police and civic authorities were deployed at important intersections to regulate vehicle movement and clear waterlogged stretches. Emergency teams also removed fallen tree branches and attended to drainage-related issues in an effort to restore normal traffic flow. Despite these efforts, heavy congestion continued in many areas throughout the day because of the steady rain and high volume of vehicles.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast that Hyderabad could continue to experience light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours. Authorities advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy showers, allow extra travel time, and follow traffic advisories issued by the police.
