Ajax have officially signed German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen from Barcelona on a season-long loan for the 2026–27 season. The move gives the experienced shot-stopper a chance to play regular first-team football after a difficult period affected by injuries and increased competition at Barcelona.
Loan Agreement
The deal is a one-year loan running until 30 June 2027. There is no option to buy, meaning Ter Stegen remains under contract with Barcelona and is expected to return once the loan ends unless a separate transfer is agreed later.
Salary Arrangement
One of the key factors in completing the transfer was Ter Stegen’s salary. Reports indicate that Barcelona will continue to pay around 90% of his wages, while Ajax will cover the remaining 10%, with additional payments possible depending on appearances and performance-related clauses.
Why Ter Stegen Left Barcelona
The 34-year-old goalkeeper found himself outside Barcelona’s long-term plans after losing his starting role. Injuries over the past two seasons also limited his playing time, making a loan move the best option for both the player and the club. Ajax can now offer him regular minutes as he looks to regain top form.
