Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh: More than a dozen passengers were injured, with some reportedly suffering serious injuries, after a private luxury bus was involved in a major road accident on National Highway 44 in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district early Sunday.

According to initial reports, the bus was travelling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru when it collided with an oncoming truck near Pogururu Bridge. The impact caused both vehicles to go off the bridge, leading to a major rescue operation at the accident site.

Around 40 passengers were on board

The private bus was reportedly carrying around 40 passengers at the time of the crash. The accident took place during the early hours, when visibility and road conditions can make emergency response particularly challenging.

Several passengers sustained injuries in the collision. Some of the injured were said to be in critical condition, although authorities had not immediately released a complete list of their identities or the exact severity of every injury.

Rescue operation launched

People passing through the area, along with police personnel who reached the location, helped remove passengers trapped inside the damaged bus.

The injured were subsequently taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Emergency teams continued rescue and relief efforts at the location as authorities worked to assess the full extent of the accident.

Investigation underway

The exact circumstances that led to the collision between the bus and the truck have not yet been established. Officials are expected to investigate the incident and determine how the crash occurred.
