Hyderabad: Motorists travelling through the KBR Park area in Hyderabad will have to adjust their routes from August 18, 2026, as the Hyderabad Traffic Police is set to introduce a one-way traffic arrangement around the park.
The change is being brought in because of ongoing flyover and underpass construction works in the Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills areas under the H-CITI infrastructure project. With construction activity reducing the available road space, traffic officials expect congestion to increase if vehicles continue moving in both directions on the affected stretches.
Why is the one-way system being introduced?
The KBR Park corridor is an important route connecting several busy parts of Hyderabad. Construction activity around the park has affected the available carriageway, creating difficulties for motorists and increasing the possibility of traffic bottlenecks.
To keep vehicles moving more smoothly, traffic police have decided to regulate movement through a one-way system. The arrangement will remain in place until the ongoing flyover and underpass works are completed, according to reports.
Which road will be affected?
One of the major changes will affect traffic travelling from Jubilee Hills Check Post towards Punjagutta. This stretch will operate under the new one-way arrangement.
Motorists heading towards NFCL and Jubilee Hills Check Post may also be directed through alternative routes depending on the traffic situation and the diversions in force.
Traffic officials have also indicated that U-turns will not be permitted on certain congested stretches. Drivers will therefore need to follow the designated routes rather than attempting to change direction at unauthorised points.
Traffic police already conducted trial runs
The August 18 implementation follows trial runs conducted by the Hyderabad Traffic Police.
Officials used these trials to understand how vehicles moved through the affected junctions and to identify areas where congestion could become a problem. Based on the observations, changes were made to the proposed traffic arrangement before deciding to introduce the system on a regular basis.
Earlier trial arrangements also helped officials identify difficulties faced by commuters and make improvements at important junctions around KBR Park.
Traffic signs and lane markings
To help motorists understand the revised system, authorities are expected to provide new lane markings and directional signs at important locations.
Traffic personnel will also be deployed to regulate vehicle movement and assist commuters, particularly during periods of heavy traffic. Officials are expected to closely observe traffic conditions after the new system begins and make changes if required.
CCTV and traffic monitoring
The traffic police are also expected to monitor the corridor using Hyderabad’s existing CCTV and traffic-monitoring infrastructure. Reports indicate that officials may use technology, including drones at suitable locations, to assess traffic conditions and identify congestion in real time.
This monitoring will allow the department to assess whether the one-way arrangement is working effectively and make field-level adjustments whenever necessary.
